New Photosmart printer from HP

New Photosmart printer from HP can print without being attached to a PC

After touchscreen mobile phones, it is time for touchscreen printers. On June 22, 2009, famous printer maker Hewlett-Packard unveiled its latest HP Photosmart Premium with Touchsmart Web. This new printer will be able to print movie tickets, maps, and various documents directly from the Internet without being attached to a PC. The new printer supports both broadband and Wi-Fi connection. It also has Bluetooth facility which enables the printer to directly print from digital cameras and mobile phones.

The HP Photosmart Premium with Touchsmart Web has a 4.33 inch touch screen and comes with a software that allows the printer to access the internet. HP’s partnership with USA Today, Google, Fandango, Coupons.com, Dream Works Animation, Nickelodeon, Web Sudoku and Weathernews will allow users to access these sites and print their contents. Users can also upload their photos to Snapfish, the photo-sharing website of HP. You can also send faxes, make photocopies and scan documents with the printer.

Like the Apple iPhone App Store, HP also launched its online app store named HP Apps Studio. Through the built in programming interface of the new printer, users will be able to download software developed by third party developers. The new printer will be available in the stores this fall and it will be priced at $399.

Portable PIXMA iP90v Photo Printer From Canon

Canon has a new printer that’s designed for the person on the go who needs to print quality photos, or any documents without having to go back to the office. The new PIXMA iP90v Photo Printer from Canon is a thin, lightweight portable printer that can slip in your laptop bag and work wherever you are.

“As the workforce regularly increases its number of traveling and home-based occupations, Canon will continue to provide users with products that offer quality, speed and versatility wrapped into innovative designs,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager of the Consumer Imaging Group at Canon U.S.A., Inc. “In particular, our track record with mobile printers is second to none and will continue to grow with the introduction of the PIXMA iP90v Photo Printer.”

A rechargeable battery is available with the iP90v that can power the device for up to 450 pages of printing to allow printing in the field, and printing can be done without connecting to a PC using PictBridge. Canon also has an optional kit that allows printing color photos or documents via Bluetooth straight from mobile phones. Another nice feature of the new portable printer that solves a common problem is the ability to make a composite black color from the other color tanks when the black tank runs dry.

The printer can handle standard business documents, color reports and photos in 4×6, 5×7, and 8.5×11 inch borderless prints. The thin printer is really no slouch with speed, either. Printing rates are at 16 pages per minute for black and 12 ppm for color prints, but a 4×6 inch photo is going to take a minute or so, literally. It can be done in around 81 seconds.

How to Pick the Right Keywords for Your Websites ?

Keywords for Your Websites

Have you been wondering why is it that some folks can rank for keywords and why others find it so hard to even pick a keyword to go after?

It’s really something that does need explaining, as without targeting the right keywords two things happen. Either your visitors to your website will be tuned off as your site’s content isn’t going to be relevant to the keyword they were searching for, OR you won’t even get if you have targeted a keyword that is far too broad you just won’t show up in the SERPS which means you won’t be getting any visitors at all.

I have few websites that are on the first and second page of Google, now with the websites I’ll just look at increasing my link juice,as in increasing my backlinks. for those websites that don’t appear at least on the second page within 3 weeks I would take a serous look at whether I actually picked the correct keywords. Some may say that 3 weeks is too short a time. BUT I say with the right keyword selection and the correct on-page SEO my websites should rank in the top two pages in Google within in 21 days.

Lets say you want to put up a site on new music would I target the keyword “new music” NO. Firstly ranking for that keyword would be very difficult as there are just too many competing websites. I’d go for something a lot more obscure that still has a good amount of searches but with not too much competition. something like “new music in ” (insert any place-name) so new music in Liverpool of Brazil or something like that. Once those keywords were ranked then I would target another keyword like “new bands in ” creating another top ranking for a relevant keyword. Soon enough Google’s LSI kicks in and I can go after more competitive keywords.

I hope this helps in your quest for picking the right keywords for your website.

Keywords And Keyword Research

Keywords And Keyword Research

Word or group of words that a person enters into the search engine to do a search.  The word keywords is also used to describe the words or group of words that you base your web site around.

The keywords that you base your web site around are important, because these are the same keywords that people will use to do a search, and have your web site be one of the listings that comes up in the search results for the search engines.

People usually classify keywords in two different categories (although there is a third category in between) and that is the two following catetegories:
  1. Broad Keywords
  2. Long Tail Keywords
Broad keywords are not specific at all, and in turn often bring less targeted traffic (more on this later in the learning center).  Broad keywords are also harder to rank for in the search engines, because they have much more competition (and also many more searches).
Long tail keywords on the other hand are very specific, and bring much more targeted traffic.  Long tail keywords are much, MUCH easier to rank for, yet they get much less traffic.
Lets do some example of broad keywords and long tail keywords…by breaking down a broad keyword, we will use dog training as an example.
Very Broad Keyword: Dog Training
Broad Keyword: Puppy Training
Mid-Keyword: Golden Retriever Dog Training
Long Tail Keyword: Golden Retriever Puppy Training
Very Long Tail Keyword:  Train Golden Retriever Puppy To Stop Barking
When picking keywords for your web site, it is important to pick keywords that have a mix between low competition and high amounts of traffic (for the most part). I don’t wan’t to mix niche marketing and keywords too much here, as I am going to talk about niche marketing in another section, so I don’t want to look too far into this example right now.

But you have to pick a happy medium for your keywords, depending on what kind of specific site you want to make.  The best combination is keywords that get a lot of traffic, but are also specific.

If you pick keywords that are too competitive, then you will most likely never rank for those keywords in the search engines, because there is way too much competition.  This means no traffic, which means no money.

If you pick keywords that are not competitive enough, it often means that those keywords get barely any traffic, which means the keywords are most likely worthless, as you need traffic.

Now don’t get me wrong, you can make tons of money off small amounts of traffic if that traffic is targeted enough (depends on the niche, and many other factors), but you want to get as much targeted traffic as possible in all cases, which is why keyword research is so important!

Keyword Research Is Very Important…

Keyword research is so, so important for you to become a successful online marketer.  You MUST do your keyword research before you start any site.  Let me explain why, and lets stay with our dog training example.   And remember…

Targeted Keywords = High Conversions = Profit!
On with the example.  Lets say you spend a few weeks building a site on dog training, and you never did any keyword research.  You poured your heart into this site, over 100 hours of hard, finger cramping work!
Note: I am just making the following example up; numbers, stats and all.  The important part is the lesson and the point.
Your keywords you pulled out of the air, that you THOUGHT were good, without doing any keyword research, were the following:
  • training dogs
  • train my dog
  • dog training online
  • train my little puppy dog
Six months later you are still getting no traffic!  Oh no!  You just wasted all that hard work!  This is how a lot of beginners get frustrated and quit!
If you would have just done keyword research and made the simple changes (often adding a simple word, or even making a simple switch) to the following keywords:
  • training dogs to training little dogs
  • train my dog to training my dog
  • dog training online to online dog training
  • train my little puppy dog to train my little dog
You would have been getting TONS of traffic, it makes the largest difference doing keyword research.  And you don’t even have to spend money, you can just use Google’s Keyword Tool, at least for now.  As you progress you may want to pick up some other tools, but don’t worry about that now.

Go ahead, click the link and open it up.  Now type in dog training, enter the captcha, then click get keyword ideas.  As you will see from the results, you get information on advertiser competition, amount of searches, and other keyword ideas.

If you then go to google.com and type in the keyword you are thinking of using, you will see how many organic listings there are, which will show you how much competition you have.

Keyword research does go a lot deeper than this, but I just want to give you an idea of what it is all about, and how important it is.

The Future is Discovery, not Just Search

The Future is Discovery

Let’s start with a picture from Radar Networks’ CEO Nova Spivack:

Erick Schonfeld, asking “Is Keyword Search About to Hit its Breaking Point?,” talks about Spivack’s view of the future of the web. According to him it lies ever-more-refined search technologies such as semantic search, natural language search, and artificial intelligence. A quote:

Keyword search engines return haystacks, but what we really are looking for are the needles . The problem with keyword search such as Google’s approach is that only highly cited pages make it into the top results. You get a huge pile of results, but the page you want—the “needle” you are looking for—may not be highly cited by other pages and so it does not appear on the first page. This is because keyword search engines don’t understand your question, they just find pages that match the words in your question.

Spivack wants to “do for data what the Web did for documents” and develop a standard, uniform system for semantic metadata. It’s the classic “dumb software, smart data” idea. Tagging works to a degree, but it’s neither uniform nor standard — the same tag can mean two different things for two different people, and two different tags can mean the same thing.

That said, the premise underpinning Spivack’s whole argument is that search will is the correct interface when faced with a world of exponentially-increasing information. His version of the future says, “Keyword search will become increasingly inefficient and the solution is to develop semantically-aware systems that search based on meaning, rather than content.”

Search and Discovery

Let’s take a step back and think of other situations where we are faced with more information than we can handle at once, for example, music. How do you get new music? If you want some new hip hop do you search for it?

In truth, nobody I know searches for new music. How can you search for something you don’t know, anyhow? Search doesn’t just profit off intent, it requires it. To find new hip hop I’d ask a friend who is into that scene and get his opinion, or browse through the new releases at my local record store or iTunes.

The same pattern exists on TV. People don’t search for new shows, they discover them either through friends and advertisements, or by channel surfing.

A Bi-Modal Future

The future of information on the Web does not rest in super-advanced search, but in both search and discovery. This bi-modal existence makes sense because people behave in two ways depending on whether they have intent or not.

If someone knows what they want, say, the average RBI among hitters in the American League, then search is perfect. If, however, you’re in a channel surfing mood, then search is worthless because you don’t know what you want — but you will when you see it.

Lots of sites straddle this divide. Yelp, for example, helps in discovery by giving you sensible metadata in the form of ratings. This fits into Spivack’s hypothesis. I have some level of intent (e.g., “I want Thai food in San Francisco”), but not much.

But sites like YouTube fall clear off discovery side of the gap. Who searches YouTube unless they’re trying to find a video they’ve already seen and want to show a friend? Furthermore, who uses the metadata on the site (besides, perhaps, related video) to find new content? Most of the highly-rated and highly-viewed stuff, speaking for myself and my friends, are not the things I watch regularly.

Instead I discover videos on YouTube through my social network or by serendipitously finding a great video embedded in a website I happen to be reading. Indeed, there are whole sites, like StumbleUpon, whose main mechanic is serendipity.

I’m still uncovering new information, but I’m sure as heck not searching for it in the search enging sense of the word.

Summary

In short, search is what we do when we have an idea of what we want and discovery is what we do the rest of the time. When looking for something to watch on TV people don’t search, they channel surf. And when people want to find facts people search, they don’t stumble around aimlessly.

As information density increases and more pieces of media, information, knowledge, and, in general, data become available online both mechanics, search and discovery, will have to be developed to accommodate the volume. Why?

In a world with more and more data the percentage of data that we are actively able to query becomes smaller and smaller. That is, if there is more data not only do we know less as a percentage of all the information out there, but we have less knowledge of what we do and do not know.

This is where discovery fits and it’s a mistake to think the only solution is a single, ultra-intelligent search agent, or a single, unifying data structure for the Web.

Understanding Keywords and Phrases for Beginner Bloggers

Keywords and Phrases

Understanding Keywords and Keyword phrases is a very important factor when we are talking about online content.  Although quality content is king, if we do not correctly use keywords and keyword phrases, we will be left without any pages views.  For some of you that will not matter, but for the majority of Bloggers out there, it is of paramount importance for us to be found and read.  And found for the correct niche topic.

So what are Keywords?
Keywords are describer words that search engines will use in order to properly categorize your content within the search engines result page.  What this means is, words like Football or Fishing, or a billion other possibilities are basic keywords.  And if your Blog has a specific niche, you will need to be conscious of the fact that some of these keywords will need to be in your content.

Then, what are keyword phrases?
Keyword phrases, also known as longtail keywords are statements, questions or other groupings of words to help describe your Blog or website.  Phrases tend to be much specialized or focused.  For example, Fishing is a very broad term, but river fishing is much more focused, and river fishing for beginners, is even more specific.

So why use keyword phrases?
If you try to search the term “Fishing”, some very heavy competition is going to show up.  Competition that a beginner Blogger is not going to be able to compete with.   But a term like river fishing for beginners, there is a word with much less competition.  One that a Blogger is going to have much better luck with ranking well in search engine results.

So, how do I find Keywords and Phrases?
Google just so happens to have a very useful tool called Adwords Keyword Tool.  With this tool, you are able to punch in your basic keyword, and from that, Google is going to generate for you, how many times that keyword is searched, and will also give you a whole list of alternate keywords and short phrases, with their traffic values.

So, how does this all work?
Ok, so you now have a basic understanding of what keywords and phrases are, but how are you supposed to use this information?  It is tricky.  I will explain how I usually use keywords as best as I can.

When I start a new Blog, I have a specific topic in mind.  Let’s take this blog for example.  This blog is about blogging.  But the keyword Blogging has way too much competition; I would not be able to compete with that.  So I narrow it down.  I make my blog about blogging for beginners, there is much less competition there.  So, I make sure that all my posts draw some focus to the fact that the overriding factor here is “blogging for beginners”, or, my alternate keyword “blogging lessons for beginners”.  So, The majority of everything I write about here will go back to those basic keywords.

But every post is not going to be called Blogging for beginners or blogging lessons for beginners, that would just be ridiculous.  But it will always come back to that.  In this post, I have focused on “Understanding Keywords and Phrases”, and those are my primary keywords for this specific post, all the while referring back to my primary keywords for the entire blog.

Does that make sense?  It was not something I just learned overnight, and it is not something that people really explain in detail.  For one reason or another, since we are all on the Internet competing with each other in one way or another, some tricks are not completely explained.  Understandable, but it makes it very difficult for beginners to learn what they need to know in order to become productive.

So…What did I learn today?
You learned that understanding your goals and Niche topic is very important when establishing keywords.  That there are tools available to us in order to find good core keywords for our blogs, and for out posts.  And you have learned that it is important to include your keywords within your content, in order for search engines to know how to classify your blog.  If you’re writing about fishing you do not want to somehow show up in off roading or something.

I hope this helps you and gives you a basic understanding of keywords and phrases.  And come back soon to get more blogging lessons for beginners. (See I squeezed it on one more time, and it’s not too forced)
